Amidst allegations that the Oyo State Government collected N50bn from the Federal Government as intervention fund for the bomb explosions that happened in the capital city on January 16, 2024, an aide to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka on Sunday released a letter with which the request was made.
The letter, as released by Lere Olayinka, was however cropped.
According to the letter which was addressed to the Ministry of Finance, the government of Engr Seyi Makinde had allegedly demanded for N50bn.
However, media reports last year had shown that the state government released N4.5bn for the purpose of which it requested N50bn.
The letter released by Olayinka did not however show whether the funds requested for by the Makinde government was released by the Ministry of Finace as requested.
NPO had earlier reported that Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose in a statement on Sunday alleged that out of the N50 billion intervention fund, only N4.5 billion was released to victims of the Ibadan explosion.
He further accused Governor Makinde of diverting the remaining funds to pursue personal political ambitions, including a presidential aspiration, which he claimed has contributed to the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the governor’s criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government.
NPO also reports that Fayose further claimed that there were additional intervention funds received by the Oyo State Government from the Tinubu administration that had not been disclosed to the public.
