Nigerian afrobeat singer, Rema, has on Sunday dominated the 9th African Music Awards (AFRIMA) as he clinched three major awards at the event.
Rema who joined other African music artistes across Africa to grace the 2026 AFRIMA held at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, was nominated for the Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, Artiste of the Year, and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB/Soul for Calm Down.
While the 25-year-old artistes swept all three awards, his counterpart, Burna Boy bagged home the Best Album of the Year award for No Sign of Weakness.
Also clinching an award at the event was Shallipopi who emerged winner of the Song of the Year with Laho as well as the Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy for the same song.
Other Nigerian award winners at the event include Phyno who won Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop and Chella who emerged African Fans’ Favourite.

Other award winners included Tanzanian singer Jux, who won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, and Cindy Le Coeur of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who won Best Female Artiste in Central Africa.
The award night which marked the last event for the 9th AFRIMA lived up to its hype as glamourous and soul-lifting.
Nigerian artistes joined other African artistes from Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, and Tanzania amongst others to share the stage and showcase their respective music.

Some of the fans who thrilled the fans with their performance include Peter Okoye (P Square), Patoranking, Gais Baba, Adewale Ayuba, and Phyno.
Others include Shallipopi, Stonebwoy, Juma Jux, DJ Mohgreen, and Veronica Adane, amongst others.
NPO Reports correspondent at the event also observed emotional moment where AFRIMA paid tribute to late African artistes including Mohbad, AKA, Costa Titch, as well as Modupe Dada, wife of AFRIMA President, Mike Dada, amongst others.
Prior to main event, a red-carpet session was held with several African artistes and guests across the continent gracing the event wit stunning outfits.

Some Nollywood actors, fashionistas, and media personalities like Yvonne Jege, Frank Edoho, Seyi Vodi, Kunle Afolayan, and former footballer, Ogeyo Onazi, making appearance at the event.
After the award night, an after party, organized by Yvonne Jegede was held with crop of young partygoers storming the Eko Hotels Convention Centre to wrap up the 9th AFRIMA.
