As Next Year’s general election is gathering momentum,the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted direct primaries in three States namely, Abia, Benue and Osun States.
This was disclosed in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by the National Secretary of the party,Sen.Iyiola Omisore.
He noted that the mode of primary adopted in those states is in accordance with the Section 84(4)(b)(c) of the party constitution as amended.
Omisore urged the INEC to cooperate with the party and act accordingly.
In the letter titled
“ADOPTION OF DIRECT MODE OF PRIMARY ELECTIONS FOR ABIA, BENUE AND OSUN STATES” addressed to INEC, the party said,
“Further to our earlier letter referenced APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/023/54 and dated 19th May,2022, we want to inform your Commission of the decision of the National Working Committee(NWC) of our party having invoked power invested on it by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to adopt DIRECT MODE OF PRIMARIES for the nomination of candidates of the party into various elective offices for the following states ( Abia,Benue and Osun States).
“This is furtherance to the Party Constitution as amended (2022) and Section 84(4)(b)(c) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) which provides the option of Direct Primaries in respect of nomination of candidates.
“Above is for your information and necessary action, please.
“While we hope for your favourable cooperation,please accept the assurances of our esteemed regards.”
