The Anambra State Police Command has arrested and detained three a motel owner and two other suspects in connection with illegal possession of firearm, and involvement in illicit drug activities in the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday in Awka.
According to Ikenga, the suspects were arrested at a Motel in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
He recounted how the operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, while acting on credible information in the late hours of February 9, stormed the Motel, where the criminals were arrested.
The suspects, according to the police spokesperson, were between ages 39, 26 and 18 respectively.
During the search of the premises, one Jojef pump action gun with breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges was recovered.
One of the suspects, who is the owner of the motel, would confirm to the crime during interrogation, leading to the arrest of others.
”His confession led to the arrest of the other two suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, Crystal Methamphetamine, Colos, and Mkpuru-mmiri.” Ikenga said.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against criminal elements in the state.
He urged members of the public to continue to provide useful information to aid policing efforts.
He also assured that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
