A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has on Friday granted former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, bail of N200 million each in a case involving alleged terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms.
Ruling on their separate bail application, the presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, held that the purpose of bail is to ensure defendants attend trial.
The judge ordered that each bail be secured with two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties must own a developed property in Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja, and deposit the title deed with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.
The court also demanded that the sureties submit affidavits of means and two recent passport photographs.
For Malami and his son, they were instructed to deposit their passports and recent passport photographs with the court.
They were however remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions with their trial adjourned to March 4 for commencement.
