President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of Mainasara Illo as the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre (NADC).
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary on Tuesday in Abuja.
In the letter, Tinubu said the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Act 2025, which requires Senate confirmation for the appointment of the head of the anti-doping agency.
“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Mr Mainasara Illo as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre for an initial term of four years,” the president stated.
Tinubu expressed confidence that the Senate would consider the nomination promptly.
“While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in its usual expeditious manner, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest regards,” the letter added.
Following the reading of the request, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committees on Narcotics and Sports for further legislative review.
The Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre is responsible for coordinating anti-doping policies, testing programmes, and compliance with international anti-doping standards in Nigerian sports.
