A litigation by a member of the family of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, has unveiled what looks like a massive acquisition of properties by the late politician when he was alive.
Alao-Akala first served as Deputy Governor, before he was elected Governor of the State in 2007.
NPO Reports that the former Governor started his career as a police officer before venturing into politics.
He died on January 20, 2022 at the age of 72.
Alao-Akala’s demise had however prompted litigation cases from his immediate family members as his wife, Kemi Alao-Alaka, filed a lawsuit before the Oyo State High Court over the late former governor’s properties.
However, the court, in its latest ruling in Ibadan, reportedly barred Kemi from selling, disposing of or entering into any form of transaction on the contested properties of the deceased pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Meanwhile, the suit had revealed the list properties owned by the late Alao-Akala in Nigeria as well as other countries such as Ghana, the United States, and the United Kingdom amongst others.
As seen in a post shared on Instagram on Friday, some of the listed properties include, acres of land at GRA, Ogbomoso (in care of Demola Alao); 140-23 160th street Jamaica Queens, New York, USA; and 19 San Juan Drive, Chafford Hundred, Grays, Essex RM16 LQ, England.
Others include an estate at No. 1, Oba Akinyele Avenue, off Rotimi Williams Street, Old Bodija Estate, Ibadan (residence of the deceased during his lifetime), five-star hotel in Ghana, bungalow at Randa, Ogbomoso, twin duplex at Ikeja, Lagos State, and a duplex beside Iponri Barracks, Surulere, Lagos.
The late Alao-Alaka further boasted of properties such as a plot at SW99DA Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, Lagos; Guest house in Agodi GRA, Ibadan; Plots 1-4, Aerodrome GRA, Samonda, Ibadan; 7,000 acres of land beside Golf Club, Ibadan; No. 29, Osuntokun Avenue, Bodija Estate, Ibadan; and Bedroom bungalow at Cele Bus-Stop, Ologuneru, Ibadan.
The list also included properties at Ile Itesiwaju, Old UAC Building, Dugbe, Ibadan; Guest house at YOACO, Ogbomoso; Destiny House, Oremeji, Mokola, Ibadan; and Eternal Mega Filling Station, Ogbomoso, amongst others.
