Protest has reupted in the Igando area of Lagos State after a student of the Lagos State University simply identified as Azeezat, was killed after being knocked down by a vehicle.
In videos circulating on social media, protesting students accused police officers of attempting to shield the driver involved and obscure details surrounding the incident.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday, noting that an investigation has commenced.
According to the command, officers from the Igando Division responded promptly after the accident was reported.
The statement added that the victim’s body has been deposited in a mortuary, while the driver involved is in police custody. The vehicle has also been impounded for further investigation.
Authorities further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the Area Command for additional investigation and oversight.
However, NPO Reports that the tragedy has reignited concerns along the LASU–Igando corridor, where residents and drivers have long complained about alleged extortion by some police officers stationed in the area.
