Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has joined the Oyo State’s Chapter of the Accord Party.
Owoseni, who also served as the Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Security Matters, announced his defection to Accord Party days after withdrawing his membership with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While being received by the party leaders on Saturday, Owoseni said he joined the Accord Party in a bid to build the party.
He debunked claims of joining in search for position, especially to contest against popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, for the party’s governorship ticket.
“I joined this party not because of position but to see to the progress of the party. Whatever thing God assisted us with in putting this party into that map, we must collectively do it.
“People have been asking if I’m here to compete with Oriyomi, let me tell you that Oriyomi is my dear junior brother.” He said.
The former Police chief reiterated that he joined in a bid to build the party which, according to him, possesses organic followership and strong grassroot.
“We came here to build the party. This is the first time that I will be in any political party. We know of other parties we can go to, but each person knows what he or she is after.
“And our principles differ. What I believe Accord has is that organic followership and grassroot. And that is what we need in Nigeria. Even when we speak of insecurity, if we have grassroot support, our security will be good.
“I appreciate you for warmly receiving me.” He added.
