The Imo State Governor and chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council, Hope Uzodinma, has fired back at Nigerian afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for calling him out over the political unrest in Osun state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
NPO Reported that Davido had during a Press Briefing on Wednesday made a personate appeal to Uzodima to prevail on the All Progressive Congress apparatchik not to turn Osun into a battle ground.
The Head of the Accord Party Campaign Council’s Youth Mobilisation wing for the re-election bid of his uncle and current Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, said he has credible information suggesting that there are moves to interfere in the Osun election.
‘And to our Daddy from Imo state, I say this with respect Sir. I’ve heard rumours suggesting that there moves to interfere in the Osun state election. Don’t use the state as a political battle ground to prove a point.’ He had said.
Davido charged the governor to use his influence to promote peace while reminding him that he has very strong connection with Imo through his wife Chioma who hailed from the state.
‘I do not present these claims as facts, but I appeal to you Sir to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun choose their candidates freely.
‘We have mutual connection and I have a deep connection to Imo state. My wife, Chima, is from the state which made this appeal more sincere.’ He added.
Reacting, Uzodinma, in a statement issued on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, said Davido should focus on preparing his uncle for life after office rather than directing emotional appeals at him.
The governor held that the people of Osun State—not celebrities or political influencers—will determine who emerges victorious at the polls.
“Instead of trying to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun appear ready to vote massively for the APC candidate,” the statement read.
Uzodinma further trolled Adeleke as he charged Davido to start making preparation for the signing of his uncle as his new dancer.
“Perhaps, Davido should also begin making arrangements to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band because, judging by the mood of the electorate, he may soon be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement added.
