Nigerian Afrobeat music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called for peaceful conduct at the forthcoming governorship election in Osun state.
Davido urged the electorates in the state to defend their votes but avoid violence at the August 15 poll.
The singer gave the charge while addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters at the re-election of his uncle and current Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke, in Osogbo on Thursday.
Davido, who was appointed by Adeleke as the head of the Youths Mobilisation wing of the Accord Party Campaign Council, charged the supporters to come out en masse to exercise the right and ensure their votes are properly counted without resorting to violence.
“On that election day, I urge everyone to come out in mass and vote for the candidate of your choice, do not allow fear, intimidation, threats or pressure to stop you from participating and most importantly defending your votes.
‘Stay vigilant during the election process and ensure that your votes are properly counted and recorded.
‘But let us remember that defending our vote does not mean violence. Do not fight and do not destroy public properties. And do not put your life and anyone’s life in danger.’ He said.
Davido held that the strengthe of the paty lies in the number of its supporters and peaceful participation at the election.
‘Our strength is in our number, our unity and peaceful participation. Osun belongs to all of us.
‘Let us come out, vote, protect the integrity of our votes within law means and allow the people’s choice to made. We all know the people’s choice already.’ He added.
