As INEC Declares Governor Re-Elected

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been re-elected as he emerged winner of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.
Adeleke won the poll with a total vote of 511,067, defeated his closest rival and Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who recorded a total of 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
Following an overnight collation of results across the 30 Local Government Areas in Osun, the total result of the election was announced around 7:20am on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commissions’, INEC, Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole.
The returning officer announced the total votes recorded by each political party after which he declared Adeleke winner of the poll.
‘That Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.’ Ogunwole announced.
According to the Returning Office, 1,005,800 votes were cast in the election, which was held across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, while 985,079 valid votes were recorded.
He said 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the poll.
Meanwhile, the Osun state governorship recorded significant cases of violence across different parts of the state.
Cases of gunshots, hoodlums’s attacks on polling units, resistances to arrests, destruction of properties were on the rise as at noon on Saturday.
This was as turnout was however high voters trooped out in their huge numbers many of them ready to defy alleged intimidations and possible arrests.
In Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of the state, some residents had cried out over some security men who wore masks shooting into the air and carting away voting materials from the RAC Centre Modakeke.
Angry residents had confronted the security men who were said to be “fake” as they stormed the centre and tried to scare away voters by shooting into the air.
