The funeral service late Dame Judith Amaechi, mother of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has blurred the line of political divide as the 2027 African Democratic Congress Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Nigeria Democratic Congress counterpart, Peter Obi, both attended the funeral alongside other political bigwigs.
NPO Reported that Amaechi’s mother passed away on the 16th of July 2026.
The matriarch died at the age of 89.
Her demise had attracted tributes from several political bigwigs, including President Bola Tinubu, with some paying condolence visits to Amaechi, Atiku’s running mate for the 2027 Presidential Election.
The political figures would again set aside their political differences on Saturday as they assembled at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Rivers State to pay their last respect to the late matriarch.
Alongside the ADC’s National Chairman, David Mark, Atiku and other leaders of the party graced the funeral service.
Also, Peter Obi had alongside his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, led delegation of the NDC to the Vigil Mass of the late matriarch yesterday.
The former Anambra state governor was absent at the final funeral service held today.
Meanwhile, other dignitaries present at the funeral include former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; and former Labour Party’s Vice-Presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
