The Uxbridge Magistrates Court in London, has remanded former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice in custody after being arraigned on Thursday.
NPO Reported earlier that both were arrested by the Metropolitan Police in the UK over child trafficking and attempted organ harvesting.
It was gathered that Ike was charged for conspiracy to arrange or facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploiting the child while his wife, Beatrice was charged for Arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, an offence that’s punishable under the law.
According to report, the victim is a homeless 15 year old boy who was brought to the U.K by Mr and Mrs Ekweremadu off the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.
The Ekwermadus have been denied bail and remanded in custody as the case was adjourned to July 7th.
Reports of the development have sent Nigerians into debate over the involvement of such a high profile former Nigerian public officer.
