Vice president Yemi Osinbajo and presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress are to lead others as governors mobilise support for the candidate of the party for the July 16 election, Gboyega Oyetola.
The grand rally planned to hold Tuesday is expected to draw governors elected on the platform of the party as part of plans to ensure victory for the party.
A statement by planning committee said the rally wont be a gathering of party faithful but also of lovers of democracy and good governance.
The statement reads in part: “The Osun chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) invites party faithful and all lovers of democracy and good governance to the Grand Finale of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s re-election rally in Osogbo, the state capital.
“The rally is scheduled to hold at the Osogbo Township Stadium, beginning from 11:00am on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
“Leaders and chieftains of the APC, including the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osibajo , members of the Central Working Committee, National Campaign Council, APC Governors and other national and regional structures of the Party are expected at the rally in support of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, the party’s candidate in the Osun governorship election.
“We trust that members of the APC will show the formidable strength and decorum the party is known for, even as we implore all residents and citizens of Osun to come out en-masse and in public acclamation of their overwhelming support for the APC candidate,” the Committee said.
Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress have visited President Muhammadu Buhari to inform him of their satisfaction with the choice of a running mate by the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu had announced his running mate on Sunday when he paid a Sallah homage to Buhari Daura.
The running mate, former Governor Kashim Shetima is a serving senator.
His choice put an end to all debate whether Tinubu would pick a Muslim or a Christian in line with some clamour by some faith leaders in the country.
But the governors had converged in Daura to let the President know that the choice is acceptable to them.
The Governors also said they had confidence in the combination of Tinubu and Shettima to ensure victory for the party at the presidential election.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Abubakar Bagudu, told journalists at the end of the closed-door meeting: “We were pleasantly surprised when Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu announced in Daura on Sunday that Senator Kashim Ibrahim Shettima was the Vice Presidential candidate.
“We were happy that it is no less a person than Senator Shettima who was announced the Vice Presidential candidate. No doubt, Senator Shettima would complement the good qualities of Asiwaju Tinubu. We are very very happy at the choice. The two will complement each other and will surely consolidate on the achievements of the President in the past seven years .”
