President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase (Rtd) as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC )
President in a letter to the Senate which was read on the floor of the Red Chamber on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan said the appointment is by the provision of section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Arase is expected to replace the former chairman of the commission, Mr. Musliu Smith who pulled out of the commission last year.
Smith had quit the commission under circumstances that remained unresolved.

While Smith claimed he resigned, some sources had said that the former Inspector General of police was indeed forced to resign.
It was believed that Smith was having a running battle with the police Inspector General, Usman Baba Alkali.
