Amidst tension over scarcity of cash in the country, officials of some branches of the Zenith Bank have been asked to go back home over safety concerns.
Recall that the NPO Reported at the weekend that there were concerns among bank workers over their personal safety as the cash crisis worsened by the weekend. Some branches of Zenith Bank as at Tuesday noon, had closed shops with instructions to staff to go home. It could however not be ascertained if the instruction was for some branches or all branches nationwide.
NPO Reports spoke with an official of one of the branches of Zenith Bank located in Ikeja who confirmed that all staff members were asked to return home. Ostensibly, the branches are giving down server as excuses for their actions. At one of the branches, a notice pasted at the gate read thus: “NOTICE!NOTICE!! NOTICE!!!
“PLS BE INFORMED THAT THE BRANCH IS NOT OPENED TO CUSTOMERS FOR TRANSACTIONS DUE TO SERVER ISSUES.
“”YOU CAN MAKE YOUR TRANSACTION IN ANY OF OUR BRANCHES. WE ARE SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE”

In addition to shutting down branches, the internet banking service of the bank was also said to be down. This, NPO Reports findings showed, has also affected the Bank’s digital Apps and the USSD. “We are down. Even the internet banking is down,” said one of the staff who spoke with NPO Reports on condition of anonimity.
