Finally, INEC Ends all controversies over winner of Adamawa Election after declaring Incumbent Ahmadu Fintiri duly elected
The Independent National Electoral Commission Tuesday evening declared the incumbent Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, the winner of the governorship election in Adamawa State.
The declaration comes days after intense drama which included an illegal declaration of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress Senator Aisha Binani as the winner by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr Yunusa Hudu Ari. Ari, has been asked to be arrested by the Inspector General of Police for what is believed to be a high level of compromise of the process in the state.
Announcing the result in Yola, the Chief Returning Officer, Muhammad Mele said Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, scored a total of 430861 while his closest challenger Binani of APC scored a total of 396788 votes.
There had been tensions in the state following the illegal declaration of Binani.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, ordered that the Commissioner of Police on election duty, Mohammed Barde, be withdrawn from the state with immediate effect.
The IGP also ordered that the CP in charge of Gombe State, Etim Equa, should immediately proceed toAdamawa state for electionsecurity of the supplementary governorship poll.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the revelation while addressing pressmen on Tuesday in Abuja, adding that the IG was committed to a free and fair electoral process.
