More tributes have started pouring in as Nigerians react to the death of the former Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu.
NPO Reported earlier the death of the late Governor who was once the President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
In a condolence message on Wednesday, hours after his death became public knowledge, former President of Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan. described Akeredolu as a visionary leader, whose commitment to the prosperity of Ondo State was evident in his numerous achievements.
“Akeredolu, a true son of Ondo State, was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the service of his people.
“His unwavering commitment to the progress and prosperity of Ondo State was evident in his numerous achievements, including the infrastructural development projects, economic initiatives, and agricultural reforms he implemented during his tenure.”
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has described the death of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State (popularly known as AKETI) as painful and great loss to the South-West.
The Southwest Zonal Secretary of the party, Mr Femi Olaniyi, said that Nigeria had lost a great leader.
“It is a painful one that the governor (Akeredolu) died and ended this way after struggling for so long for his life.
“We want to send our condolences to the family and all the people in Ondo state.
“This is the time for morning not to celebrate anything, especially the politicians.
“We just need to pray for the family the governor left behind. AKETI has done really well for Ondo state compared to all his predecessors,” Olaniyi, also the Lagos State SDP Chairman, said.
Olaniyi, who called on the government to immortalise the late governor, prayed for the repose of his soul.
Also, a former President of the Senate, Sen. David Mark has expressed shock over the death of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State He specifically noted the exploits of Akeredolu in legal profession before going into politics to contribute to the development of his home state; Ondo and Nigeria in general.
He said that the nation had lost a forthright, sincere, and an unrepentant defender of the rule of law and protection of human rights.
”As a lawyer and President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), he stood for the ordinary man and never compromised his professional standards.
”As a governor, he made policies and programmes that had direct positive impact on the people. Akeredolu was peoples’ governor,” he said.
