The Presidency has said that the former Director General of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera and his Bureau of Public Enterprises counterpart, Alex Okoh were not dismissed.
The Presidency, through the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President did not intend dismissal in the statement sent out announcing their removal from offices.
NPO Reports that in the statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media, he had said both former appointees had been dismissed from office.
The use of the word “dismissal” had caused ripples with many urging both to seek legal redress to alleged defamation of their characters.
Onanuga, who said he had followed the concerns in the media said, “The President’s directive did not intend a dismissal . The two men who have served our country were relieved of their duties by the President, as he scouts for their successors.
“The connotations implied in using the word dismissal were clearly not intended in the statement issued. President Tinubu thanks the two men for their services and wishes them well in their future endeavours.”
