The Rivers State Police Command has nabbed four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and rescued a woman who was abducted from her shop in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
Agabe disclosed that a white-tinted minibus allegedly used by the suspects was also recovered.
According to her, the victim’s husband, identified as 35-year-old Mr Ikechukwu, reported the abduction to the police on July 11, prompting an intelligence-led investigation by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Rescue Unit.
Agabe said the victim was attending to customers at her shop when armed men stormed the premises, forced her into a white-tinted minibus and fled the scene.
She explained that the police tracked the suspects to their hideout, where four male suspects aged between 28 and 42 were arrested and the victim was rescued unharmed.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects have confessed to their individual roles in the crime.
She added that efforts were ongoing to arrest two other members of the syndicate who remain at large and to recover the firearms allegedly used during the operation.
Agabe urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, assuring them that all useful information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing and other lawful strategies aimed at bringing criminal elements to justice.
