An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has on Friday ordered the remand of a 28-year-old man, Hammed Ayoola, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 15-year-old daughter.
Ayoola, a video editor who resides at 11, Adekunle Adelani St., Ejigbo, Lagos, was arraigned on a charge of rape.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs C.M. Kushanu, did not take the defendant’s plea as she ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned until September 30 for DPP’s advice.
When the case was called, the prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed on June 8, at the defendant’s residence.
Ademigbuji alleged that the defendant lured the victim into his room and had canal knowledge of her.
He said the victim’s mother had sent her on an errand on the day of the incident, and she stayed longer than expected.
The prosecutor said the victim told her mother that the defendant dragged her into his room and sexually assaulted her.
Ademigbuji further alleged that the victim told police after the defendant’s arrest that he had been molesting her for a long time.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
