The Amnesty International on Thursday described as tragic the inability of the Nigerian authorities to provide safe school environments.
The organization made the allegations against the backdrop of the abduction of about 232 pupils of LGEA Primary School Kuriga Kaduna on Thursday.
Amnesty International said schools should be places of safety regretting how pupils must not now choose between their lives and education.
“Amnesty International condemns the appalling abduction of 200 primary and secondary school students and their teachers in Kuriga Kaduna state. We are calling on the Nigerian authorities to safely rescue the students and hold the suspected perpetrators to account,” the organization said
“The Nigerian authorities must take measures immediately to prevent attacks on schools, to protect children’s lives and their right to education,” the group said while adding that schools should be places of safety, and no child should have to choose between their education and their life.
