Hundreds of mourners converged on Isiokpo community in Ikwere Local Government Area of Rivers State for the funeral service of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holding, Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and son Chizi.
The funeral service held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lion of Judah parish, Isiokpo.
Mourners, including friends, associates, and well-wishers from both local and international communities, gathered to pay their final respects.
Following the service, the interment took place, where family members and close friends bid their farewells.
The Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara said the state government would support the university to keep Wigwe’s dreams alive.
“I want to say our brother has finished his work, though shortly. We, as a government, will do everything with the Wigwe Foundation to immortalise one thing.
“It is not the bank, the bank might have a new identity, a new boss to run it, other ventures will also have their names; but one thing that has his name is Wigwe University.
“We will do everything within our power to make sure the dream will continue to live just as he has planned it,”

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, described the death of Wigwe as a big loss to Nigeria and the Nigerian banking and finance industry.
“He was a man of integrity who never believed in cutting corners to achieve success in business.”.
Present at the service are; Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Aliko Dangote, Muhammadu Sanusi II, Alex Otti, Dapo Abiodun, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Babajide Sawno-Olu, and other notable captains of industry.
Other top dignitaries in attendance are Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and State Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, who is the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the burial ceremony.
Also at the funeral are Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Godknows Igali, a former Nigerian diplomat, among many others.
Members of the clergy, traditional rulers from the Omoeke, Wigwe’s hometown, and monarchs from Isiokpo in general are in attendance.
Wigwe, his wife, and his son, the former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, were all in the Airbus Helicopter EC 130B4 with registration number N130CZ, which crashed near Halloran Springs, California, on February 9, 2024.
