Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 General Election.
Obi reportedly emerged as the candidate following the party’s closure of its sales of nomination forms for the presidential ticket.
Sources within the party disclosed that Obi was the only aspirant to purchase the form before the closure.
This placed him at a vantage position to become the NDC’s flagbearer without any opposition.
Meanwhile, the NDC extended by one week the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly seats.
According to the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, who confirmed the official closure of the nomination forms for the presidential ticket, he said the deadline for other elective positions forms earlier fixed for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, had been extended to 12 midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The statement said the extension applied only to aspirants seeking tickets into the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship positions.
The NDC warned that no further extension would be granted beyond the new deadline and urged aspirants to strictly comply with the guidelines and timelines.
