Speculations were rife on Wednesday that Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi may have declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Though there were reports that he went to Abuja on Wednesday to specifically and formally inform the President, Muhammadu Buhari, a source close to Fayemi told the NPO Reports that the Governor had earlier informed the President of his intention.
“The President is aware of his intention already,” the source told the NPO Reports on Wednesday.
The source said Fayemi’s presence in Abuja was not in connection with his formal information to the president but for some other issues relating to the Nigerian Governors Forum.
So, far, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, former Governor Bola Tinubu, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, have declared their intentions to contest in 2023.
Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who was rumoured to have quit the race, said on Tuesday that he had not pulled out.
It was not however clear as at press time when Fayemi would publicly declare his intention.
