Lagos State government has threatened demolition of 68 properties including a branch office of Dalsey Hillblom Lynn (DHL) Logistics Company following the issuance of contravention notices to the owners.
This was disclosed in a post on the state government’s official X handle.
As contained in the post, the properties situated along Admiralty Way and Wole Olateju street in Lekki Phase 1 were said to encroaching on Lagos Waterfront setback, contravening the Lagos Waterfront law No. 3 of 2009.
Meanwhile, the property owners were charged by Lagos Commissioner of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Yacoob Alebiosu, to present to the Waterfront Ministry, documents authorizing them to use the setback or risk getting their property demolished.
The post read; “In its continued efforts to sanitize the Lagos State Waterfront corridor, the Lagos State Government served contravention notices on Farm City, Jonah Court, DHL, Polo Avenue and 65 others at Admiralty Way and Wole Olateju in Lekki Phase 1 abating Lekki Cowrie Creek encroaching on Lekki Waterfront setback.
“According to the Honourable Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development,Hon. Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, all the companies served are occupying the waterfront setbacks illegally thereby contravening Lagos State Waterfront law No 3 of 2009 “for the regulation of Waterfront Development in Lagos State and connected purposes.”
“He charged them to report to the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Block 10, State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja with available documents/titles authorizing them to use the setback, failure of which may result in the property being sealed or demolished.
“He reiterated the commitment of the LASG to provide infrastructure and maintain the Lagos State Waterfront by harnessing resources to ensure a well-protected environment that is attractive to tourists and the people of the state.”
