A last minute superb header from Moses Adikwu sealed 2-1 victory for Enyimba FC of Aba against a stubborn Ikorodu United side.
The People’s Elephant had, on Sunday Ikorodu United in a pulsating 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday nine played in Aba, Abia.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwala put the hosts into an early lead in the 5th minute.
With no other goals from either side in the first half, the game advanced to the second half as Enyimba struggled to double their lead against the resurgent Ikorodu United.
The visitors would be back in the game as Toyeed Ayeyiegbe pulled an 87th minute equalizer.
However, Moses Adikwu’s last minute superb header in the 90th minute ensured a hard fought win for the ‘people’s elephant’ against a resurgent Ikorodu side.
Speaking at the post match interview, Coach Yemi Olarenwaju of Eyimba, expressed reservations over the centre referee’s inability to protect his players from danget tackles by the visiting team.
“I wish to hail the players for been focused and their zeal to win which won the match for us, in spite of conceding late in the match,”he said.
He, however, expressed concern over the club’s congested fixtures in the NPFL and CAF confederation matches.
Olarenwaju urged his players to concentrate on wining their matches so as to finish high in the league while playing tactical with caution.
On his part, Ikorodu coach Nurudeen Aweroro congratulated the host team for the win, but said his team target was to avoid a defeat.
“We played well and a draw would have been a good result for us, we have to go home and strategise on our next match.
“First of all, I thank God for injury free game. though, we lost at the last minute and that was due to lost of concentration.” He said.
