President Bola Tinubu has again met with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in fresh bid to resolve the reignited power struggle between the duo.
Tinubu reportedly summoned Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers, and Fubara, his successor, to the Presidential Villa on Sunday night.
According to The Nation, Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, after the discussions.
The report added that the Rivers governor allegedly begged the minister, vowing never to show him disrespect again, signalling a potential reconciliation between the state’s powerful political figures.
Tinubu’s intervention marked his third attempt in settling the differences between Wike and Fubara.
NPO Reported that the President had in 2024 made his first intervention over the power tussle between the duo which threw the state into deep political crisis.
With his effort yielding no results as the crisis intensified, the President, on the 18th of March, 2025, declare a state of emergency in Rivers with Fubara and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended for six months.
Prior to the lifting of the suspension in September 2025, Tinubu would again summon the warring parties and brokered truce between them.
This was however short-lived as fresh feud brewed following Fubara’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Wike accusing him of breaching their agreement with the President.
The new feud had since seen both parties trading words with the Pro-Wike Rivers lawmakers led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, initiating impeachment process against Fubara.
