…Accuse President of Delaying Actions for Two Weeks
President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards and the deployment of a specialised security unit to rescue abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State has sparked angry reactions from many Nigerians
This follows a visit by a high-powered delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after the May 15 abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
Tinubu also directed the deployment of a specialised security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities to strengthen ongoing efforts aimed at securing the release of the kidnapped victims.
In addition, the President disclosed that the request by residents for the establishment of a military base in the area is receiving urgent consideration by the Federal Government.
The President’s announcement has been met with a wave of criticism on X, with many users accusing the Federal Government of responding too slowly to the abduction.
An X user identified as @great_ebube001 wrote, “You all know what you’re doing! If I should use derogatory words at you, the Nigerian DSS will discover where I am, no matter where I hide in any part of this country, but it’s been over two weeks! And you are just taking actions which I know ends up in negotiation.”
Another user, @Des_line_ish, questioned, “So no security personnel had been deployed since the day of abduction but APC minions have been going about with talk of the govt are working on it. And 1000 forest guards from where? And shouldn’t rescues be done without stating the tools used? Just show empathy and work.”
Similarly, @ImadeOkundia criticised the delay, saying, “It took you this long to start a rescue mission. Nawa for ur administration sha pls do us the honor of not coming back.”
@1Kings_Success1 said, “Imagine yourself this man, what’s this you are saying? Took you this whole time to shake your body? There is no need, they might end up killing them, just ensure you direct the military men to wipe the kidnappers, oh but again, it’s you guys business and you would protect your investment.”
Another user expressed disappointment over the timing of the intervention, stating, “It took you over 2 weeks before you could act. Nigerians lives means nothing to you. Shameful.”
