Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has joined bereaved former Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai as prayers were offered at the burial of his mother on Sunday.
NPO Reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Allied Offences Commission, (ICPC) had released the former Governor temporarily to attend the burial of his mother who died in the early hours of Saturday in Cairo, Egypt.
Among those who joined el-Rufai at the National Mosque Abuja for the Janaza prayer were Governors of the ruling All Progressive Congress , such as Mohammed Umaru Baggo of Niger state, Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election and a leader of the ADC, Mr. Peter Obi, businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; former Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal.
Also in attendance was the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
El-Rufai was of the APC before he defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
“Today, I joined family, friends and associates of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and the extended El-Rufai family at the Janazah (funeral prayer) of the matriarch of the family, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai. May God continue to comfort the family and all who mourn her. And may Allah grant her Aljannah Firdaus. Amin,” Atiku said of his attendance at the event.
The remains of the former governor’s mother had arrived earlier today in Abuja, from Cairo ahead of the burial.
