The Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will on Wednesday, deliver judgment in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, against the Sept. 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo. The PDP and Ighodalo are challenging the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Sen. Labake Olododo has topped the Nigerian box office, grossing N50.4 million over the weekend following its release. The movie was produced by Alice Iyabo Ojo. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has impounded a truck loaded with 70,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This is contained in a statement signed by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer (NPRO), Afolabi Babawale, on Monday in Abuja. In a bid to promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, the Federal Government has announced plans to establish “Renewed Hope Cultural Villages” across the 36 states. Mr Abiola Jagunlabi, Senior Special Assistant to Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin. He said that the project which is part of the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope Cultural Project” will preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage, promote tourism, and drive economic growth. The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has announced a review of divestments involving 26 oil blocks worth $6.03 billion by five International Oil Companies (IOCs). The Executive Director, NEITI, Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, made this known during its first quarter media briefing in Abuja. The transactions include notable sales such as Shell to Renaissance ($2.4 billion), ExxonMobil to Seplat ($1.28 billion), and TotalEnergies to Chappal ($860 million). The Lagos State Police Command says it has rescued two kidnap victims and launched a search for their alleged abductors. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos. Wema Bank has recorded a profit before tax of N102.51 billion. This marks an increase of 135 per cent compared to the N43.59 billion recorded in 2023. The bank has proposed a dividend of N1.00 per share following its strong financial performance in 2024. In a statement by the bank on Sunday, its balance sheet remains structured, diversified, and resilient, with total assets growing by 60 per cent to N3.585 billion in 2024. Total assets had stood at N2.240 billion in 2023. The bank also grew its deposit base year-on-year by 36 per cent to N2.523 billion from N1.860 billion.…
