The pupils and teachers who were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have now regained their freedom.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X.
According to Onanuga, all the abducted pupils and teachers were successfully rescued by security agencies.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” he wrote.
In a video shared on his X account, Mrs. Rachel Alamu, the principal of Community High School in Ogbomoso was seen expressing appreciation to President Tinubu and the security agencies for securing their release.
“President sir, our father, we are grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety and we appreciate all you did for us.
“And every security operative, they tried so much and that is why we are still alive by now. God bless you.” she said.
NPO Reports recalls that the victims were abducted on the 15th of May after armed bandits invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026, abducting 46 people, including 39 pupils and seven teachers.
Among those kidnapped was two-year-old Christianah Akanbi, making the attack one of the most disturbing school abductions recorded in the state.
The victims spent 56 days in captivity before regaining their freedom.
However, as of the time of filing this report, authorities have not disclosed details of the rescue operation, including how the victims were freed or whether any arrests have been made.
