The Supreme Court has on Friday ruled that the old Naira notes in all their denominations will remain legal tender until the end of the year 2023.
This was the decision of the apex when it sat today in the case instituted by some states of the federation over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Naira redesign policy. The policy had thrown the country into financial chaos for month with many small businesses crumbling.
The court, said that the old Naira notes should be used alongside the redesigned currencies while chiding President Muhammadu Buhari for making orders contrary to its earlier order.
The lead judgement was delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim.
