Fire on Saturday gutted the outer part of the palace of the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Though the palace authorities, through the Chief of Staff to the Emir, Sanusi Bayero, said the damage was minimal, there are reports that suggested that some hoodlums were responsible for the setting fire on the palace.
“It is hereby notified that on Saturday, July 13th 2024 morning, a fire incident ocured at the outer court of His Royal Highness’ Palace. Kofar Kudu. Fortunately, there were no casualties and the damage is minimal.
“The palace is taking all necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of the palace and its occupants. We are also investigating the cause of the fire and taking steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future,” the Chief of Staff to the Emir said in the statement.
It was gathered that the fire destroyed the throne, air conditioners, and other valuables within the palace. Despite the severity of the damage, the Kano State Fire Service was not notified.
The State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abudullahi, stated, “The command was not aware of the incident as there was no call regarding the incident at any of the agency’s centres.”
