A 33-year-old man, Temitoye Ganiyu, has been remanded at a correctional centre by an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over the alleged assault of two police officers and the destruction of a mobile phone at the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters.
Ganiyu, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge bordering on assault, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters.
Adaraloye alleged that Ganiyu assaulted ASP Badejo Taofeek by dragging him on the floor and tearing his uniform while the officer was performing his official duties.
He further alleged that the defendant also assaulted another police officer, Florence Adedapo, in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to the prosecutor, Ganiyu also maliciously damaged a Samsung A07 Android phone valued at N210,000.
Following his plea, the Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case until August 10 for further hearing.
