There was a huge crowd with deafening shouts of Obi in Kano on Monday as the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, arrived in the ancient city to welcome former governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
As Obi emerged in the crowd, it was a tough task to allow him mount the stage as crowd of supporters shouted “Obi” “Obi” “Obi.”
NPO Reported that Kwankwaso had yesterday announced his resignation from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
Prior to his resignation from the NNPP, his support group, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, had announced the planned defection of the former Kano governor to the ADC.
The event is slated to hold today at the Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano.
Ahead of the programme, Obi arrived in Kano around 10:30am with Kwankwaso’s loyalists receiving. him.
His presence marked his second visit to the ex-Kano governor in two weeks.
Meanwhile, speculations have begun to grow over possible emergence of Obi and Kwankwaso as the ADC’s candidate and running mate for the 2027 Presidential election.
Their collaboration has been considered a major boost for the ADC and concern for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on account of the number of followers they possess.
It however remains unclear who will emerge as the coalition party’s flag bearer considering the presence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; ex-Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, in the party.
