A yet-to-be identified man has on Tuesday caused drama in a Lagos court after attempting to escape from the court’s premises during the hearing of his case.
The defendant, as seen in a viral video recorded by a lawyer and share on X, was dragged back to court by security operatives.
He was reported to have excused himself during the hearing as he requested to use the rest room.
He however failed to return to the courtroom several minutes after being granted permission.
This prompted search for the defendant by security operatives and court officials.
He was eventually found hiding in the ceiling of the toilet with the security operatives ordering him to step down.
One of the court workers in charge of the toilet narrated how the defendant had requested to use the facility.
“He was using the toilet. Next thing, we didn’t hear his voice again.
“I said go inside, I hope he has not killed himself there or something.
“The policemen didn’t see him. When we went inside, we heard rumbling sound in the toilet ceiling. That was how we knew he was there.” She said.
The lawyer who recorded the video recounted handling a case where her client demanded to use the toilet, but the security operatives insisted on escorting the defendant despite her objection.
“There was a time that I came to court and one of the defendants I was defending said he wanted to ease himself.
“Authorities involved said they must follow him and I was wondering that he just wanted to ease himself.
“They insisted. But now I understand why they stood their ground.” She said.
