A wild elephant has on Monday crushed a farmer, Musa Kalamu, to death in Itasin-Imobi community, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The elephant which was alleged to have strayed from one of the government-reserved forests invaded Kalamu’s farm and attacked him.
Confirming the incident to newsmen on Tuesday, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, disclosed that officials of the commission are currently on their way to the community.
“Yes, we are aware, and we are already on our way to the community,” the commissioner said.
Meanwhile, the incident appeared to have been a worrisome trend in Itasin-Imobi community over the years.
A member of the Ogun House of Assembly, Sola Adams, had in 2022 raised alarm over the invasion of farmlands by elephants.
The lawmaker had reportedly raised the alarm following an attack on a farmer at the same community.
Adams, who spoke during plenary in Abeokuta, had noted that the recent incident where elephants attacked villagers in his constituency remained worrisome.
