Former Nigerian lawmaker and Ibadan chieftain, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, has mourned the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
NPO Reported the demise of the renown Oyo state monarch who passed away on Monday at the age of 90.
The late monarch joined his ancestors barely a year after ascending to the throne.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Akanbi, the Okanlomo of Ibadanland expressed his shock over the king’s demise.
He described the monarch as a symbol of wisdom, dignity, and peace.
The former lawmaker praised the late Olubadan as a monarch whose reign, though brief, was marked by an unwavering commitment to the unity and well-being of Ibadanland.
“Oba Olakulehin was not just a king, but a father figure and a peacemaker whose presence exuded calm and understanding,” Akanbi said. “His love for Ibadan and his dedication to its peace and heritage will never be forgotten.” he said.
Reflecting on their longstanding relationship, Akanbi fondly recalled their time together at the Federal House of Representatives between 1992 and 1993.
He described their bond as one rooted in mutual respect and trust, often likened to that of a father and son.
“I feel this loss personally. Kabiyesi was a true statesman, and I am grateful for the wisdom and guidance he offered me over the years,” he added.
Akanbi concluded by offering prayers for the repose of Oba Olakulehin’s soul and called on the people of Ibadan to remain united in honour of the late monarch’s legacy of peace and wisdom.
