The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has condemned the impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara by the state’s House of Assembly while calling for the sack of Nyesom Wike as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.
NPO Reported that the Rivers House of Assembly had at the resumption of its pleanry session on Thursday initiated the impeachment process against Fubara.
As contained in a letter of allegation read by the Assembly Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, the governor was accused of gross misconduct.
According to Amaewhule, the letter was signed by 26 members of the Rivers State House Assembly.
The Speaker vowed to ensure that the letter is forwarded to Fubara within the next seven days as legislative action commences.
Reacting to the development, the Ijaw Youths Council condemned the move, stressing that it is against the wish of Rivers’ people.
The council’s President, Alaye Theophilus, made this known during a briefing in Port Harcourt hours after the lawmakers began proceedings to impeach Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Theophilus pointed accused fingers at Wike as he called on President Bola Tinubu to sack the FCT Minister.
The IYC leader declared Wike an enemy of democracy and good governance.
“The latest developments in Rivers State have revealed the true enemies of the state and as such we call for the immediate sack of the FCT Minister, the person of Barrister Nyesom Wike,
“It has been shown that he is not a true democrat but an enemy of democracy and good governance.” Theophilus said.
The IYC declared its support for Fubara’s and Tinubu’s re-election bid
“The IYC and the entire Ijaw ethnic nationality are behind your re-election bid for 2027 and that of Siminalayi Fubara for his second term as Governor of Rivers State,
“We categorically declare total support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 for the show of love and democratic disposition he has demonstrated as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Theophilus said.
