The former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Osun State Chapter, Nurudeen Alowonle, has debunked alleged involvement in the murder of Olalekan Opeyemi, an aide to the state governor, Ademola Adeleke.
NPO Reported that Olalekan, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, was shot dead at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
The governor aide was reportedly vying for the disputed Osun NURTW chairmanship position previously held by Alowonle before the dissolution of the union by Adeleke.
Olalekan was tragically shot in the head by armed hoodlums and confirmed yesterday hours after being endorsed as the next state chairman.
In the wake of the incident, several accused fingers have been pointed at Alowonle with some eyewitnesses recounting how the ex-Osun NURTW chairman stormed the motor park alongside his gang who were all putting on a mask.
A senior official of the union, Kareem Akeem, who was among Olalekan’s entourage at the park claimed seeing Nurudeen alongside the armed hoodlums with masks on their faces as they attacked them.
Reacting in a video posted on Facebook on Sunday evening, Alowonle denied being part of the hoodlums.
Speaking in Yoruba, Alowonle claimed that he never his Osogbo base throughout yesterday.
‘I never left Osogbo and I knew nothing about what happened. Nobody should spoil my name.
‘Please nobody should tarnish my image. If anything happens your first mention is always Alowonle. I know nothing about it.’ He said.
The ex-Osun NURTW boss warned against accusing him of Olalekan’s murder as he reiterated that he knew nothing about it.
