The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has announced plan to deport 143 foreign nationals following the completion of their jail term over cybercrime.
This was made known by a senior official at the Ikeja, Lagos, headquarters of the NIS following the clearance of the ex-convicts by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
The foreign nationals, as captured in a video shared on X on Monday, arrived at the NIS Lagos headquarters in convoy.
Addressing newsmen, the headquarters senior official whose identity could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this report, said that the foreign nationals comprising of 91 males, 52 females, and two West Africans, will be profiled and prepared for deportation back to their respective country.
The officer reiterated the Nigerian Immigration Service’s zero tolerance for foreign nationals committing crime in the country.
He also disclosed the presence of suspected human traffickers in the service custody.
The suspects who, according to him, are majorly Ghanaians will also deported.
“We have taken custody of 143 inmates who have served their jail terms. 91 males of different nationalities, especially Chinese, 52 females, and two West Africans. They are now in our custody.
“The correctional armed men you see with us are the ones who brought them. We are going to profile them, this is to ensure that there is zero tolerance for foreigners to come here and commit crime.
“They have just concluded their jail terms. Many of them cybercrime, some cyber terrorism. We are going to profile them and subsequently deport them to their country.
“We have had also in our custody human traffickers that we are going to deport. Ghanaians especially that came into the country to traffick our girls.” The NIS official said.
