The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the names and particulars of governorship candidates and their running mates for the 2027 elections across the country.
The details, contained in Form EC9, were displayed at INEC offices in the states on Saturday.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress
(NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) featured prominently on the lists.
The published details include the candidates’ ages, educational qualifications and other credentials.
According to the INEC timetable, campaigns for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections are expected to begin in September 2026 and end on February 4, 2027.
The governorship and state House of Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on February 6, 2027.
In Oyo State, 16 candidates will contest the governorship election.
The APC candidate, Sharafadeen Alli, will face Bimbo Adekambi of the Allied Peoples Movement, who is backed by Governor Seyi Makinde, and Yinusa Ayandare of the African Democratic Party.
In Lagos State, 17 candidates are contesting the governorship election. They include the state’s Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat of the APC, and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the ADC.
In Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani of the APC will face 17 other candidates, while 14 candidates are contesting the governorship election in Kebbi State.
Delta State has 16 governorship candidates in the race.
In Sokoto State, 19 political parties will participate in the governorship election.
Kwara State has 12 governorship candidates. The APC candidate and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, will face the PDP candidate, Bolakale Kawu, and 10 other contenders.
In Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal is seeking re-election against 15 other candidates.
INEC listed 19 candidates for the Bauchi State governorship election. Among them is Lami Babageidam of the Zenith Labour Party.
In Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia will contest against five other candidates. They include former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, who is the PDP candidate.
In Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf of the APC will face other contenders, including Aminu Gwarzo of the NDC, Mohammed Raji of the Labour Party and Muhammad Dalhatu of the PDP.
Rivers State has 19 governorship candidates contesting the election.
In Gombe State, 17 candidates have emerged for the governorship election, according to INEC Public Affairs Officer, Mohorret Bigun.
In Ogun State, 13 political parties have fielded candidates for the governorship election. They include Solomon Adeola of the APC, Oladipupo Adebutu of the PDP and Jimi Lawal of the ADC.
INEC also listed 14 candidates for the Jigawa State governorship election.
In Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru will face the PDP candidate, Ifeanyi Odii, and other contenders. Odii was Nwifuru’s main challenger in the 2023 governorship election.
