The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos, has paid tribute to the former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Mr. Oladotun Oladipo, describing him as a committed journalism professional and advocate for media development.
In a statement issued on September 11, 2026, the Centre extended its condolences to Oladipo’s family, the leadership and members of GOCOP, his professional colleagues, friends, and the wider Nigerian media community.
IPC described Oladipo as a committed journalism professional, media development advocate and supporter of initiatives promoting ethical journalism, professional standards and democratic accountability.
According to the Centre, his years of service to the Nigerian media were filled with active engagement, effective mobilisation and a commitment to strengthening the journalism profession.
IPC highlighted Oladipo’s role during his tenure as GOCOP president, noting that his leadership brought him into sustained engagement with the Centre on issues including media professionalism, electoral reporting and responsible journalism.
The Centre said Oladipo was instrumental in securing GOCOP’s position as one of the first umbrella media professional bodies to formally support and endorse the Nigerian Media Code of Election Coverage.
The Code, introduced by IPC in 2018, provides a professional framework aimed at promoting accuracy, fairness, balance, accountability and conflict-sensitive reporting during electoral periods.
IPC further noted that Oladipo went beyond GOCOP’s institutional endorsement by encouraging individual members of the Guild to subscribe to the Code and its principles.
IPC also recalled Oladipo’s regular participation in major industry gatherings, including conferences of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, media leadership summits and other forums that brought together media professionals and stakeholders.
Commenting on Oladipo’s legacy, IPC Executive Director, Lanre Arogundade, said his leadership of GOCOP and engagement with the wider media community demonstrated a strong commitment to professional standards and responsible journalism.
“Oladipo’s leadership of GOCOP and his engagement with the wider media community reflected a strong commitment to professional standards, responsible journalism, and the collective advancement of the Nigerian media,” Arogundade said.
He added that Oladipo’s efforts contributed significantly to strengthening professional engagement and the media’s role in democratic development.
The International Press Centre prayed for the peaceful repose of Oladipo’s soul and expressed its condolences to his family, GOCOP, colleagues and the wider Nigerian media community.
NPO Reports that the final burial rites for Dotun Oladipo held on Friday, September 11, in his honour, with family members, friends, colleagues and members out to pay their last respects and farewell.
