The Lagos State Government has sealed the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island and Foodies Restaurant in Lekki Phase I over environmental infractions linked to poor wastewater management.
The enforcement action was carried out on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), following reports of indiscriminate discharge of untreated sewage into public drainage systems.
According to the agency, the Balmoral Convention Centre was shut down for pumping raw sewage directly into public drains and for failing to address a blocked sewage chamber.
The resulting spillage reportedly caused a persistent foul smell and posed a public nuisance in the area.
Foodies Restaurant, located at No. 32B Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I in Eti-Osa, was also sealed for discharging untreated wastewater containing heavy deposits of fat and oil into nearby drains.
Authorities said the practice led to clogged drainage channels, environmental pollution, and offensive odour in the vicinity.
The LSWMO noted that the enforcement followed repeated warnings issued to the affected establishments, which were allegedly ignored.
Reiterating its stance, the Lagos State Government urged residents, business owners, and property managers to comply with approved wastewater management practices, warning that individuals or organisations found violating environmental laws would face sanctions, including possible prosecution.
The agency emphasised that proper wastewater disposal is critical to public health, environmental protection, and the overall sanitation of Lagos.
