The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned the notorious hoodlum and National Union of Road Transport Workers’ (NURTW) official, Shamusideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, over alleged murder and brutal assault of a dispatch rider.
According to an information made available to NPO Reports on Tuesday, Oladiti was arraigned before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court.
The Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, also confirmed the arraignment of the suspect.
Adebisi in a telephone conversation with NPO Reports correspondent disclosed that the Oladiti was arraigned before the magistrate court earlier today.
“He has been arraigned this morning at Ebute Metta Magistrate Court.” She said.
Details of his arraignment was however not provided by the Police spokesperson.
She promised to make them available shortly.
NPO Reported the arrest of Oladiti earlier this month following the death of one Ramon, a Marwa passenger assaulted by the NURTW chieftain in Lagos Island.
Ahead of his arraignment, protesters had assembled at the court premises with banners demanding justice for Ramon.
The deceased was reported to have died of the injuries he sustained from Oladiti’s brutal assault on him while trying to intervene between the NURTW official and the operator of the tricycle he boarded.
Video from the incident which occurred in August showed moment the late Ramon was dragged from the Marwa by the hoodlum to a spot where he repeatedly punched him in the face with a metallic ring.
The Marwa passenger tragically succumbed to the injury on the 17th of September, the day same Oladiti was captured in a video brutalising a dispatch rider who would be rushed to a hospital and placed on oxygen as a result of the assault.
Ramon’s death had sparked outrage with residents taking to the street and burning two motorcycles belonging to Oladiti before his arrest by the Lagos State Police Command.
