Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd’s CEO, Aisha Achimugu, has clarified her ties with Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, dismissing claims of being bankrolled by the governor to fund the campaign of the 2023 Presidential campaign of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
NPO Reported that Achimugu was last year declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged money laundering.
While no findings have confirmed her role in the 2023 campaign, speculations however emerged that Sanwo-Olu transferred some funds through her to sponsor Atiku’s campaign- a claim which had since been debunked by the former Vice President and the Lagos governor.
Also speaking on the speculations during an interview on Channels TV Politics Today programme on Monday, Achimugu further debunked the claims.
She maintained that her money is not tied to Sanwo-Olu despite her relationship with the governor.
“If I know a governor of Lagos state, regardless whether it is Sanwo-Olu or not, with the kind of business I run and my exposure, I will be part of them of course.
“I started business in 2001. I was already in oil and gas business before I met my late husband who was the MD of PPMC.
“I come from a decent background. My money is not from Sanwo-Olu.” She said.
She further refuted claims of funding political campaign, stressing that her fund only goes to a charity organisation which she operates.
“I’m not a politician, I only fund charity organisation. That is only where I put my money.” She added.
Achimugu had also in the course of the interview debunked alleged discovery of $13 million in her house during a raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
