Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 41-year-old businessman, Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, for importing 6.10 kilograms of liquid cocaine concealed in shirts and towels from Brazil into Nigeria.
Ikechukwu, who is based in São Paulo, Brazil, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, shortly after arriving from Brazil through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
According to the NDLEA, a search of his luggage revealed 14 shirts and towels soaked in liquid cocaine, which had been dried and carefully ironed in an attempt to conceal the substance.
In his statement, the suspect said he had lived in Brazil for more than 14 years, where he operates an African restaurant and he travelled to Nigeria to visit his wife and purchase food items in bulk for his business.
In Abia State, a 60-year-old woman, Chidimma Sunday, was arrested after she was found with 1.8kg of cannabis, also known as skunk. She was apprehended by a local vigilante group in Umuna Autonomous Community, Isialangwa North Local Government Area, before being handed over to NDLEA officials on Wednesday, June 10.
In Rivers State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Usman, at Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, with 400 grams of skunk, 5 grams of methamphetamine, 100 grams of tramadol, 5 grams of swinol, and 18 grams of diazepam.
In Delta State, officers arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Onya Jude, at Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, for allegedly using five gas cylinders to hide 2.8kg of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis.
Two suspected drug dealers, Jamilu Idris, 40, also known as Jama, and Aminu Abdullahi, 33, also known as Momo, were also arrested in Gombe State. They were reportedly caught with three large blocks of skunk weighing 2.738kg.
The NDLEA said a suspect, Ngozi Gaius, 39, was intercepted along the Zaria-Kano Road in Kano State with 6,000 pills of tramadol 225mg.
In Kwara State, operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu Road arrested Nasiru Hamza, 47, and Muhammad Sani, 38, while allegedly transporting 600 compressed blocks of skunk weighing 304kg in a Toyota jeep.
A warehouse belonging to a suspected drug dealer, Ali Adamu, 45, was also raided in Maihula village, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, where 63 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 1,121.5kg were recovered.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), NDLEA officers arrested Emmanuel Nnadi, 46, along the Gwagwalada Expressway with 30,400 pills of tramadol, 750 pills of pregabalin, 200 pills of molly, and 592 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
Another major seizure was recorded in Lagos, where operatives recovered 1,102kg of Ghana Loud, a cannabis strain, around Alaba International Market in the Ojo area of the state.
