Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has advised President Bola Tinubu to step down from his position if the situation of the country has become too overwhelming for him.
Atiku said Tinubu is out of Nigeria while series of insecurity challenges are on a sudden rise.
He said, “Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity. To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90m ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians.”
Saying that Nigeria does not need a president that will be junketing across the world, Atiku said “If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.”
The Presidency had announced last week that Tinubu would be in France on a private visit.
Since then, there have been some major security breaches in different parts of the country with kidnapping, killings and others on the rise.
The upsurge in crime however predated Tinubu’s travel out of the country.
Just on Monday kidnappers abducted another set of pupils, teachers and their driver.
The same day, kidnappers attempted to kidnap traditional rulers killing two of them while one escaped.
